by admin on Jul.26, 2010, under Uncategorized

There are many reasons to holiday in the UK this year and a good selection of them can be found on the Isle of Wight. Holidaymakers of all types will find something for them on the island thanks to its line up of spring and summer festivals, which will cover everything from sailing to music and food. Here’s a taste of what’s on offer to help get you in the mood for your Isle of Wight holiday:

Isle of Wight Festival: The renowned Isle of Wight festival will be getting music fans in the mood for summer from the 11th to the 13th of June at Seaclose Park, Newport. An incredible line up is planned, including Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, The Strokes, Blondie, Pink, The Editors, Reef, Orbital, Doves, Calvin Harris, Friendly Fires, Ocean Colour Scene, James and Squeeze.

Cowes Week: Cowes will be attracting crowds of sailing enthusiasts and socialites from 31st July to 7th August as it hosts its annual regatta celebrations. Cowes Week, which has been a key fixture in the sailing calendar since 1826, attracts up to 1,000 boats each year and tens of thousands of spectators.

Garlic Festival: The popular Garlic Festival is happening over the weekend of the 14th and 15th August and is one of the highlights of the Isle of Wight’s food calendar. The village of Newchurch hosts this two day event, which is attended by around 25,000 people each year. A wide range of garlicky treats will be on offer, including garlic sausages, garlic prawns, garlic coffee, garlic beer and even garlic ice cream.

Bestival: The island’s festival season comes to an exciting climax between the 9th and 12th September as an electric line up assembles for Bestival. This year, Prodigy, Dizzee Rascal and The Flaming Lips are confirmed for the event. Bestival is well known for its vibrant, friendly atmosphere, with plenty of fun – and fancy dress costumes – alongside great music.
