A Guide To UK Accommodation

by admin on Aug.23, 2010, under Uncategorized

The UK is a great place to spend a vacation. It provides much in the way of history, culture and attractions. Therefore, it is of no surprise that it attracts so many visitors each year. Those visiting have a choice of accommodation options available to them, with these being the main ones…

Chain Hotels - Most big hotel chains offer accommodation in the UK including Hilton, Marriott, Holiday Inn and many others. Many of these types of hotels can be found in major cities. London actually has multiple hotels from each chain. Chain hotels are the most expensive type of accommodation in the UK. However, you do get what you pay for. You will have to pay at least $100.00 a night if you stay at a chain hotel.

Independent Hotels - Are sometimes less expensive and sometimes not, as they range from luxurious getaway resorts to the cheapest places with the least amenities. They can be found all over the UK, even in small towns that are normally not considered to offer tourist attractions. You can really get a good deal staying in an independent hotel, but you need to take care that you choose one that is clean and has good service. This can be a gamble as it is all up to the individual proprietor. Most of these accommodation range from $40 to $100+.

Hostels - If you are young, adventurous, and on a tight budget, keep in mind that the UK offers hostel accommodation. They are most prevalent in London but if you research a bit you can find them in other large cities. Hostels offer a bed in a shared room and not much more. The best thing about a hostel is that you can stay in one for about $20 a night. Prices vary though so check on them before deciding to stay in a hostel.

Bed And Breakfast - These are a UK tradition and often the type of accommodation that citizens of the UK choose when traveling within their own country. Most bed and breakfasts are large homes that offer rooms to travelers as well as breakfast. Your host will invariably want to make sure that you are comfortable and feeling at home. This type of accommodation usually costs somewhere between $20 and $50 a night.

Most UK accommodation have a website or can be found on one of those websites that offers a variety of accommodation. However you look, you should be able to find the perfect accommodation for your UK vacation in less than half an hour.

When You’re Planning Your First Cruise

by admin on Aug.22, 2010, under Uncategorized

Each year going on holiday seem to get harder and harder. Between natural disasters, terror threats and strikes, the stress of just getting on a plane can warrant a holiday in itself. Of course you don’t have to leave the country; we normally manage at least one or two weeks of half decent weather.

The only other way to leave our island and enjoy some nice weather is by boat, have you considered a cruise?. Anyone regardless of budget and holiday taste can enjoy a cruise these days with the selection on offer. Whether you’re after the luxury of Silversea cruises or the opulence of the Oceania cruises or simply a few days peace and quiet, a cruise could be just what you’re after

If you’ve decided to take the plunge and you’re about to book your first cruise here’s a few things to think about first. A sensible budget should be set before you start planning. You can cut costs by sourcing and booking everything yourself but if you can afford it book through a cruise travel specialist. A travel agent will also be able to go through all your options with you and advise what operator would best suit your plans. They’re also likely to be able to offer you some last minute discount five star cruises too. Always remember they’re probably on commission so always double check their advice with a good old Google. Speaking of the internet, don’t forget to check some reviews too and maybe even try talking to some people who’ve left those reviews. Most cruise liners these days will require you to print your own boarding passes and other relevant paper work similar to most airlines. It’s advisable not to leave this till the day you leave as this will be the day you run out of ink and the shop is out of stock. If you have to fly to your port and the flights are through the cruise provider you have the added safety of knowing they’ll be able to help if you’re delayed or anything goes wrong. If the plane is delayed the liner will probably wait for you or help get you to the next port if a good proportion of their passenger list is also on the plane with you.

A well planned cruise can offer the holiday of a lifetime with experiences you’ll never forget. You’ll find you have a lot more contact with your neighbours than you might in a normal hotel, the walls are thinner and they’ll be less chance to get away from them if you feel the need. Always try to extend the common courtesy you’d like to receive in return and make sure you have a great holiday.

Brighton - The Best Of England’s Seaside Towns

by admin on Aug.19, 2010, under Uncategorized

Whether it’s a scenic beach front, great shopping, the arts, or just lots of fun, Brighton has it. With its mix of sites and attractions, there’s always things to do in Brighton, whatever time of year you visit. Being a seaside town, Brighton’s beach front is, naturally, its main attraction, and it has all kinds of activity (such as sunbathing, surfing, sailing, volleyball and skateboarding) going on. If it’s shopping you want, the area of Brighton called The Lanes offers a mix of cool and unique shops set amongst a maze of quaint, timeless streets. Brighton, like every respectable British seaside town, has a pier. There are, in fact, two piers, but one is awaiting renovation for damage due to centuries of ocean storms. The remaining pier is called, simply, The Brighton Pier and is the home of arcades, cafes, restaurants, a roller-coaster, and dodgems. It is singularly British. During the summer months it is the venue for fireworks on the beachfront. Visitors delight to see these fabulous displays. When visiting Brighton, one must pay a visit to The Royal Pavilion. Built for The Prince Regent, the future King George the IV, it was in use by The Royal Family until Victorian times. It boasts an Indian style and reflects other Asian cultures as well, principally Chinese. The building and decoration of The Royal Pavilion was a “no expense spared” project. To appreciate the building in all its splendor, plan a visit to walk around and enjoy it in person on your trip to Brighton. If you have lots of energy and would like to get out into the bracing English seaside air, consider a walking tour. Seeing Brighton by foot is a great learning experience and you will undoubtedly find the history of Brighton and its nearby sister city, Hove, to be fascinating. Walking tours are guided and you will be treated to all sorts of interesting information about the history and landmarks of the towns. The guides can also share information about other things to see and do while in Brighton. If a walking tour isn’t your thing, there are always Brighton’s wonderful bus tours. A daily ticket will allow you to get on and off and back on the bus as you stop where you will and reboard to see the next site. You will have a chance to make a leisurely day of it, seeing the sights and stopping for tea or lunch along the way. The bus tours take you by all of the major tourist attractions as well as major monuments and landmarks. Consider a bus tour early in your visit to give you an idea of what Brighton is all about!

Another Airline Bites The Dust

by admin on Aug.19, 2010, under Uncategorized

It would seem that the airline industry has once again taken a low blow and no I am not even talking about the strike that nearly put six of the UK airports in closure for a few days. this time it is about the travel company Kiss Flights and it comes as they are ceased to trade, truly terrible news and not something that people really wanted to happen. so what happens to the people that have booked through this company and what has happened to the company?

How It Happened

it looks like the ash cloud did a lot of damage to smaller companies like this and was the biggest reason for this. This had a big effect on big aviation companies so can you even begin to think about some of the effects that it had on the smaller companies that really rely on the business they get and getting the flights out every single day. Because the cloud hung around for such a long time it meant that companies like this were falling into debt very quickly indeed and it is very hard to recover from something like this if you are a small company.

What Can People Do

Besides going to something like Torquay hotels or a nice spa breaks If you have booked through this company already you should be protected through ATOL so in actual fact you might and should be able to get your money back which is always good, if you are already on holiday the travel authorities have promised to fly you back on time so do not worry about coming back early. Although it might be too late to rebook flights now it could be the perfect time to do that work on the house or because book one of those Christmas holidays in advance.

Whatever happens I hope that it all turns out okay for you!

Greece : A Great Place To Spend Your Holiday

by admin on Aug.17, 2010, under Uncategorized

Greece is one of the top 20 tourist spots in the world, due to the more than 15 million people who go on holiday to Greece a year. The Greek Islands are the most popular tourist destinations, but many people forget that mainland Greece has quite a bit to offer too. Athens, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Crete and Rhodes are all major destinations. There are still many rewarding areas in the country free of large-scale tourism, for those who are looking for a quieter time away from the bustle. Greece offers many and varied experiences, landscapes, and activities. It is famous for the reliable sunny weather, the nightlife, historical sites, famous beaches and, of course, its natural beauty.

The Mediterranean climate is alive and well in Greece. The winters are short and mild. The summers run from April through November and boast hot, dry weather and days and days of sunshine. Occasionally there will be rain showers, but these are short-lived and infrequent. May and June and September and October are the very best months to see Greece as the weather is at its most comfortable and pleasant. From the middle of July to the middle of August, Greece is under the spell of the hottest summer weather.

If you are planning a holiday destination to Greece then you will want to travel between the months of April and October. Most of the vacationers begin to arrive in April and it usually hits its zenith in the month of July. If you decide to travel at any other time, you may find that accommodations are not as plentiful since the other times of the year most places are closed down. The cities of Athens and Thessaloniki are the main hubs of international transportation, but there are many cities on the islands which handle chartered flights during the major portion of the holiday season.

When you do find accommodations in Greece do not be surprised at the simplicity. Most rooms will be small and they should have air conditioning. Generally, there is a balcony overlooking a plaza so you can continue to enjoy all the Greek ambiance. Most hotel accommodations are very clean and well taken care of. You can find more expensive hotel accommodations in the main cities, but honestly, you are not getting anything more than what you would pay for at a smaller hotel or inn, and you miss out on all the atmosphere. You can easily get a hotel room online, via email or by using your telephone and fax. There are also many different companies that you can go through that will help you plan your Greek holiday getaway.

Greece is not known for its major cosmopolitan flair. You usually will not be able to do major shopping while on the islands. What you can expect is specialty products from local artisans which can not be beat. These things include hand-made lace and jewelry, leather goods, pottery, local wines, hand woven rugs and much more. When you are in Greece, expect to eat very well since eating out is a major way of life. Most restaurants are called “Taverna” or “Estiatorio” and they are easily found in any area you visit. And if you speak English, then you will not have any issues with a language barrier since most people speak the language.

Austrian Airlines

by admin on Aug.12, 2010, under Uncategorized

Austrian Airlines is the flagship carrier of Austria, with headquarters in Vienna, which is also the airline’s main hub at Vienna International Airport.  Vienna International prides itself on the ability of passengers to change flights quickly and easily.  Airport personnel promise that a passenger should never have to spend more than 30 minutes waiting for a connecting flight.  There are plenty of lounges and cafes at Vienna International Airport for those passengers who do have to wait to board connecting flights.

Austria’s flagship carrier was founded in 1957. Focusing on Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East, Austrian Airlines also routes some passengers on flights run by its subsidiary, Tyrolean. Austrian Airlines is staffed by over 8,500 workers, and is a member of both the Austrian Airlines Group and the Star Alliance, the largest airline alliance on the planet with 24 different brands. Most Austrian Airlines flights operate on jets built by Boeing and Airbus.

The frequent flyer program for Austrian Airlines customers is known as Miles & More. Over 15 million people earn Miles & More on Austrian Airlines and 12 other European carriers, and use their miles on these carrier as well as the 24 carriers in the Star Alliance.

Few airlines place a greater emphasis on safety. For nearly 30 years, since 1981, every Austrian Airlines flight has been accompanied by at least two undercover sky marshals. All pilots and flight attendants receive frequent training with a special emphasis on safety, as well as new technology.

Much as the Vienna airport offers singular efficiency in transferring passengers between flights in 30 minutes or less, Austrian Airlines offers outstanding customer service. Completely revamping its customer service program in 2006, Austrian Airlines added dozens of new features, ranging from new passenger lounges to free snack service in economy to all-inclusive customer care for passengers on the ground. Calling their new program a success, Austrian Airlines proudly points to multiple industry surveys giving them top rankings in customer service and quality.

In February 2009, the airline appointed Dr. Andreas Bierwirth and Dr. Peter   chief co-executives, with equal management rights. Austrian’s board of directors anticipates this new and unique management team will boost the airlines’ bottom line despite declining passenger numbers. In 2008, the airline carried 10.7 million passengers, down from 2007, and further loss of traffic is expected in 2009. Emphasizing its well-known strengths, Austrian Airlines is maintaining its image as the carrier of choice for flights from Europe to the Middle East, adding four flights each week to Jordan’s capital, Amman.
