Travelling With Kids: How To Not Lose Your Mind

by admin on Jul.30, 2010, under Uncategorized

For many people, the simple thought of having to travel with a kid is enough to give you nightmares. Plane tickets are very expensive for a traveling family, and this generally leaves the family car as the only method of travel. And with the economy doing its best to restart itself, many people have completely eliminated vacations from their budgets. This doesn’t need to happen to you. Some of my best childhood memories are from family road trips. Mexico and Canada, since they are so close, provide a close vacation that feels like it’s worlds away, and with the relatively new passport card id, you and your family can go on a great adventure.

My absolute favorite thing to do on car trips when I was younger were coloring books and craft sets. I remember specifically owning a Barbie coloring book, one with animals, and a huge baggie full of markers and crayons. With these supply in hand, I would spend hours coloring pictures for everyone in the car. Besides these coloring books, I absolutely loved these big felt pieces in all sorts of shapes that had holes in them along the edges. With a shoe lace or a string, it made the perfect little girl sewing set. My brother loved the jumbo building blocks, which could be put together in all sorts of shapes.

My mom would bring along these “worksheets” that had little puzzles on them. As we were driving, she would give me one that I would work really hard to complete, and I would give it back to her to “grade.” I always got A’s, although I doubt I got everything right, but this fostered in me a love of learning. As I got older, she would give me whole books of puzzles that taught basic addition and reading, and I definitely felt so proud of myself after I completed a page. These trips really do present a great educational opportunity.

With the huge strides technology has been making, new electronic toys for kids like the Leapfrog Leapster are great way for kids to enjoy educational video games that will keep them entertained for hours. Also, on a little less advanced side, you can record your child’s favorite storybook on tape. Get a tape recorder and record yourself reading the book; you could even change the names to include your child in the story! Also, don’t forget to include noises that indicate where to turn the page.

Passport cards are easy to obtain. All you need to do is visit your U.S. passport office or apply online. Passport cards are so much cheaper than passports, and you get almost the same benefits. A passport card allows you to travel by land or sea instead of airplanes, and they let you travel to many places around the United States. Having these cards lets your family go on a great vacation without putting a hole in your wallet.

If you are thinking of taking a vacation, you don’t need to waste any time worrying about what to do with the kids. Whether you want to take a Mexican siesta or explore some beautiful Canadian landscapes, you only need to visit your passport agency or go online and get your passport id card. Some of my best memories come from traveling with my family, and you can give these memories to your very own children with an awesome family road trip.

Pasport Card – It Should Not Be A Hard Thing To Do

by admin on Jan.04, 2010, under Uncategorized

When you travel out of the United States, you need to bring a US passport with you, especially when visiting counties that require this document. Typically, you’ll bring your passport book, however, there are destinations that allow you to use the pass port card. These destinations are part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), which includes Canada, Bermuda, the Caribbean, and Mexico. In this article, we’ll show you how to get a passport going to these destinations.

First off, let’s talk about what a passport card is. This is for those who are looking for a cheaper and more convenient alternative to the passport book. Unlike passport books that can be quite thick, passport cards are thin and can easily fit into your wallet.

If you’re after convenience when traveling, then you’ll love the U.S. passport card. It has an embedded radio frequency identification (RFID) chip that allows Customs officials to scan your card without you needing to put it out. They will then be able to see all the relevant information about you, all while the card stays in your pocket or wallet.

Applying for a passport card is also more cost-effective than passport books. The fee for applying for a passport card is around half the price of the application for a passport book. However, the destinations where you can use this card are limited. You can only use this card for land or sea travel to WHTI territories. So if you are traveling to the same places by air, then you’ll need to show your passport book instead.

Now, how do you apply for a passport card? Doing this depends if you already have a passport or not. If you are already a passport holder, or if you already had a passport before, then you can fill in Form DS-82, and submit it along with other requirements you need to fulfill. Filling in the DS-82 allows you to send your application for a passport card by mail.

However, if you are applying for a passport for the first time, then you will be required to fill in DS-11. Once completed, you can submit it to the passport office in person, along with the other requirements. It would therefore help that you familiarize yourself on how the application works so as to save time.

Having a passport card is a great thing. However, there are times when you’ll also need to have a passport book. The great thing is that you can apply for both documents. This provides you with great flexibility when it comes to your travel. That way, you can use your passport card when visiting WHTI destinations, then use your passport book when traveling to Europe, for example. If you are applying for both documents, you have the choice to apply for them at the same time and get a corresponding discount from the application fee.

To summarize this information, you need a American passport card when traveling to WHTI destinations. Look into this alternative before your next trip.
